As Andy Palanisamy says,
“If moving people efficiently (and safely) is your primary business, would you design the system to transport 12,300 people/hr or 30,100/people/hr? For generations, engineers and planners have been groomed to use the “Level of Service” as the governing metric in street design. And this approach has traditionally (and terribly) favored one mode of Transport while putting the others at a serious disadvantage. Now, after years of hard learning, a lot of these professionals are waking up to a new reality – adding lanes/widening roads is not the solution and measuring throughput has to cut across all modes. Here is an example of how the streets would look when designed to this (relatively) new and sustainable approach.” (image via Vision Zero Canada)
