‘Unsustainable Structures 3’ (2017) Wentworth St, Spitalfields, London, E1 6TB

Urban eye

Photographer and trained architect Francisco Ibáñez Hantke sees cities as a spectacle of constant conflict, negotiation and flux. Some of these facades will be retained, others have been demolished, and some will be integrated into new developments
The following images are from his Unsustainable Structures series, part of his Non-Structures show at the London Festival of Architecture

‘Unsustainable Structures 3’ (2017) 115 Wentworth St, Spitalfields, London, E1 6TB

This retained facade resembles a building turned inside-out. It is part of a regeneration project which includes reinstating Toynbee Hall, upgrading public space, and building 74 apartments (14 affordable), office and commercial space. Non-Structures by Francisco Ibáñez Hantke is at the Velorose Gallery, 1b Charterhouse Street, London until 30 June, as part of the London Festival of Architecture

  • ‘Unsustainable Structures 1’ (2015) 5-13 Goodwin St, Finsbury Park, London N4 3HQ

Having lost the support of its adjacent structures, this building located by Finsbury Park Station required temporary external support to remain standing. It has now been demolished to give way to City North, a 355-home (47 affordable) mixed-use regeneration project
